This lookout is closed until further notice.

Grand Canyon Track

  • The section of the Grand Canyon walking track from Neates Glen to 'The Tunnel' is closed every day, including weekends (to January 2010), to allow for track upgrade and restoration works to be undertaken. Access to the open section of Grand Canyon is via Evans Lookout only.
  • The Grand Canyon is open for canyoners at the formal rope entry access points, accessible form Evans Lookout only.
  • In the Grose Valley, Junction Rock to Grand Canyon via Rodriguez Pass is closed due to significant landslide at Beauchamp Falls. NB: No entry/exit to Grose Valley via Grand Canyon.

Other closure information

  • Due to extreme conditions and numerous uncontained wildfires burning in Blue Mountains National Park, all parts with minor exceptions will be CLOSED from 20/11/2009 until further notice.
    • Only vehicle access to cliff top lookouts are open as well as,
    • Prince Henry Cliff Walk and,
    • the walk to Princes Rock from Wentworth Falls Picnic Area.
    • For updates, please contact the NPWS Heritage Centre at Blackheath, phone 4787 8877 - 9am to 4:30pm daily.

ALL National Park walking tracks and canyons in the following areas are CLOSED:

  • Euroka and the Glenbrook entry to the National Park.
  • All walks into the Jamison Valley.
  • All walks into the Grose Valley.
  • All walks and canyons in the areas north of the Great Western Highway and north of the Bells Line of Road in Wollemi National Park.
  • Due to recent wildfire Andersons Fire Trail will be CLOSED until further notice.
  • Due to maintenance works Faulconbridge Pt Fire Trail will be CLOSED Monday to Friday from 17th November until further notice. This closure includes pedestrian and bike access.

Due to significant storm damage the 4WD beach access at Black Rocks Camping Area is CLOSED indefinitely. Vehicles may still traverse Ten Mile Beach north from the Shark Bay 4WD beach access but can not exit at Black Rocks. There are NO other beach accesses on 10 Mile Beach other than Shark Bay 4WD beach access.

  • Maintenance and improvement works will be undertaken at Davidson Park boat ramp from the 1st June 2009. There may be minor disruption to park users, however he boat ramp will remain open for use. This website will be updated with the closure date when available. NPWS apologises for any inconvenience. 

Approximately 520 hectares of bushland were burnt for hazard reduction in November 2008.  It is very important that members of the public stay out of burnt bushland areas for the following reasons:

  • for safety reasons – only trees directly adjacent to the tracks/trails have been assessed for dangerous tree limbs. Trees inside the burnt areas, however, have been damaged by fire and branches/trees could fall down and injure someone.
  • to help the bushland regenerate – by keeping off the newly burnt ground it will protect and enable new growth to form
  • to prevent unauthorised tracks forming throughout the bushland.

  • The Yuelarbah track between Little Flaggy Creek and Burwood Beach remains closed due to storm damage.
  • The Eastern section of Yuelarbah Trail is CLOSED with no through traffic due to construction project to update sewerage pipes.  Access is still available on foot via the Yuelarbah Walking Trail.

The rest of the park is now open, however there may be fallen or damaged trees in parts of the park, so visitors should proceed with due caution.

  • Water quality in Dex’s Swamp/Creek and head waters, and pools in surrounding creeks can not be ensured due to elevated organic matter within the water profile. Adequate drinking water needs to be carried for entire trip or purify all drinking water collected from creeks in the Kanangra Walls to Cox’s River area.

Kosciuszko National Park closed areas

Weather can change quickly in the mountains and snow can fall at any time of the year. Roads may be closed due to snow or wet conditions.

Berowra track

This track remains closed due to landslides caused by bush fires and heavy rain. It is unsafe to walk on.

Great North Walk

Other closure information

All fire trail and walking tracks in this National Park as well as access to West Head are CLOSED to the public while the current Total Fire Ban is in place 20-21/11/2009

  • West Head precinct of Ku ring gai Chase NP shall be closed to all public land based access.  Access shall be closed at West Head Road and the junction with General San Martin Drive. This closure shall remain until midnight 22nd November 2009.
  • However, boat access to, and use of the Basin campground and day use area is excluded from the Total Fire Ban closure. The closures are to exclude public access to vulnerable areas during a period of extreme fire danger.
  • Due to fire damage, the Echidna track at West Head will remain CLOSED until further notice.

Hazard Reduction burning operations have occured recently within the park and the public is advised not to enter burnt areas following the burns due to the risk of falling branches.

It is very important that members of the public stay out of burnt bushland areas for the following reasons:

Lemontree 4WD (beach driving)

Lemon Tree beach access track is currently OPEN for vehicles to drive to Dark Point but people should take care when driving on the beach, especially at high tide. People are reminded that driving on the dunes or any vegetated area on the beaches in the park is not permitted.

Other closure information

Due to wildfires, Myall Lakes National Park (north of Boral Rd) and Myall River State Forest (north of Boral Rd) are CLOSED. All roads and trails within these northern areas are CLOSED to public access from 1st October 2009 until further notice.

  • Jarrah Road is CLOSED due to a bridge on the road becoming unservicable. The bridge will be accessed and reopened as soon as possible.
  • Gorong Trig Trail is CLOSED to prevent recent work on the trail being damaged by vehicles. Recent rain has caused the trail surface to become saturated by water and traffic along this trail will result in damage to this work. 
  • Mungo Beach has been reopened to 4WD access. Please note two sections of ledges along the beach remain passable only at low tide.

  • Minyon Grass Day Use Area is open
  • Minyon Loop Walking Track within the eastern section of Nightcap National Park is open

NPWS is undertaking track repair and tree clearing works as weather permits .

A hazard reduction burn has recently been conducted at Bradley Head, as of Friday 2nd October until further notice please note the following:

  • The top carpark at the entrance to the National Park will be OPEN
  • Bradleys Head Road will be CLOSED to vehicles beyond the top carpark
  • Atholl Hall and parking remain OPEN.
